Journeys Houghton-Mifflin Reading Program

Journeys is a reading program designed to meet the diverse needs of all students by using a balanced literacy approach. Students will progressively learn and develop different skills related to phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension.



WriteSteps is an evidence-based, award-winning, K-5 writing and grammar program that assists teachers in writing instruction with standards-based daily lessons.  Fusing best practices, such as the 6 traits of writing, Writer’s Workshop, Multiple Intelligences, and Bloom’s Taxonomy, this comprehensive program gives teachers and students everything they need to develop their craft with confidence.  The comprehensive curriculum prepares students for success on writing assessments and a lifetime of confident writing.


Phonics First

Phonics First™ is language-based, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, cognitive, and flexible.  It includes alphabet and phonemic awareness strategies, the three-part drill for structured review, tactile/kinesthetic spelling techniques for phonetic and non-phonetic words, syllabication for multisyllabic words, and guidance for lesson plans and classroom implementation.


My Math

Built around the Standards for Mathematical Practices, McGraw-Hill My Math engages students with the focus, coherence and rigor required by state standards. The program has an intuitive lesson format and digital tools to develop customized content.  Digital accessibility with any device help you to plan, sequence, and deliver instruction that works best for your students anytime, anywhere.

At Cesar Chavez Academy Lower Elementary we believe in meeting the needs of our students by utilizing curricular programs as resources.  Our teachers have the flexibility to integrate these resources as they see fit to meet the needs of our diverse learners.  Through these resources teachers are able to conduct creative and engaging lessons that are aligned to state standards.
























Generation Genius

Generation Genius is a K-8 teaching resource that brings school science standards to life through fun and educational videos paired with lesson plans, activities, quizzes, reading material and more. Our videos are produced in partnership with the National Science Teaching Association, and aligned to standards in all 50 states.


Mystery Science

Mystery Science is a curriculum aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and supports the Common Core standards.  It is an online science program featuring “open-and-go” lessons that inspire kids in grades K-5 to love science.  It features rigorous lessons in science and engineering that inspire students to love science.  Each Mystery begins with a question that is explored through hands-on scientific investigations, discussion questions, engaging videos and experiences that connect to real-world phenomena.

MC3 Social Studies Curriculum

Oakland Schools has also developed a model curriculum with instructional materials for K-11 aligned to Michigan standards for social studies and content literacy. These materials, available online, are grounded in research and delineate best practices in social studies education.  Cesar Chavez Academy utilizes the Michigan Citizenship Collaborative Curriculum (MC3) as guided by the Michigan State Social Studies Standards for Social Studies instruction.


Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum

Phonemic awareness is essential in teaching students to be automatic decoders of print.  The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum provides students with consistent and repeated instruction, and this transfers to developing a student’s decoding and encoding skills
