About Us

César Chávez Academy began its journey in 1996 as a single elementary school educating students in grades K-5 with enrollment of approximately 200 students. Since then, CCA has expanded its campuses to four locations; CCA-Lower- K-2, CCA-Upper 3-5, CCA-Middle 6-8, and CCA-High 9-12.

The enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year reached 2,100 and waiting lists are maintained at virtually every grade level. The academy is over 90% Hispanic, 94% free and reduced lunch, and 74% of its students are English language learners.

Here at CCA Lower Elementary we have capped our enrollment with 462 students.  Our population consists 92% Hispanic, 95% free/reduced lunch, and 90% English Language Learners. 

We take great pride in servicing the Southwest Detroit community and its surrounding areas.  It is our mission to provide an opportunity for all students to learn in a safe atmosphere of academic excellence.  

The district leadership, staff, community members and stakeholders, along with committed support from The Leona Group, LLC, and Saginaw Valley State University, have also contributed to the success of the CCA district.

 

ABOUT CÉSAR CHÁVEZ ACADEMY

César Chávez Academy opened in 1996 and is a free, public charter school district educating more than 2,000 students grades K-12 on five campuses in Detroit, making it the largest charter school in Michigan. César Chávez Academy is Michigan’s first NCA AdvancED accredited multi-campus charter school district in the state of Michigan.
